Defence Community Facilitator

 Our Linton based team provide varied support and advice to our community:

• Coordinate local welfare activities and events throughout the year, including family events and social activities to connect families.
• Are a wealth of information about what is happening at your camp/base and in your community including events, services and resources.
• Can help to connect you with other NZDF family members in the area.
• Are a listening ear and can assist with family or community concerns. We can refer you to local services, outside agencies or health professionals as required.

Linton Community Library

This is community library is open to all NZDF personnel and their family with a NZDF ID or a family/dependent’s pass, and anyone else located in the wider Linton area. The Library collection includes an extensive selection of fiction, non-fiction, military topics, children's books, DVDs and magazines, plus we have access to the resources of other NZDF libraries and other New Zealand libraries for work-related information. Internet computers are also available in the Library.

Hours:         Mon 9am – 4.30pm, Tue 12–5pm, Wed 9am – 4.30pm, Thurs 9 - 5pm, Fri 9am - 4.30pm.

Linton Hobbies Complex

The Hobbies Complex provides a vehicle and joinery workshop, an extensive range of equipment for hire including trailers (tipping, cages, furniture), garden and outdoor equipment, home maintenance, and much more. Carport and garages also for hire.

Linton Littlies Playgroup

Linton Littlies Playgroup is a safe and friendly environment for parents/caregivers and their children to meet on a regular basis. We provide a range of educational activities to nurture and encourage children’s learning and develop social skills. It's also a chance for parents and caregivers to meet and support each other within our unique community. Linton Littlies is Ministry of Education certified and follows the early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki. The sessions are run by a collaborative group of volunteers, meaning parents and whānau lead.

Sessions:       9 - 11.30am Tuesday and Thursdays during school terms.

Linton Kindergarten

Linton Kindergarten's philosophy of Kaitiakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Ako, Whakamana and Manaakitanga means strong foundations are laid for our tamariki, whānau and hapori to grow and learn.

It means we are protectors of our environment, we value relationships and connections, we learn with and from each other, we are all empowered to learn and grow, and we are respectful and we care.

We are proud to be a Silver Enviroschool. Sustainability is a part of our everyday kaupapa. Tamariki are empowered to be involved in planting, gardening, composting, harvesting, caring for animals and small creatures, looking after our worm farm, and caring for our local ngahere. Our care code supports tamariki to learn about caring for our planet, our friends, our toys, our gardens and living things in our environment.

We provide a supportive environment for whānau, particularly during times of deployment when sole parenting can be a challenge for Army families.

Linton Camp Childcare Centre

Our centre’s foundations are based on fundamental Christian values and beliefs. We offer high quality bi-cultural education and a developing multi-cultural education that is unique to our community.

Our services ensures that in each and every environment, tamariki are given opportunities to engage in new experiences which influence, and build upon their learning dispositions and overall development. We ensure each experience moulds and shapes the children’s development skills and ultimately reflect the values, norms and beliefs of our nation.

Linton Camp School

Linton Camp School is situated within the Linton Camp housing area, a short drive from Palmerston North. Most of our students have parents/whānau who work for the Army at Linton Camp. However, as a state school anyone can attend. Linton Camp School provides instruction for students from New Entrants to Year Eight. We also have a bilingual class catering for students in Years One to Three. We have a Kapa Haka group, open to all students in the bilingual class, as well as students from Years Three to Eight.

Welfare Houses

Within the housing area are two properties set aside to address a short term welfare crisis (i.e. family member in hospital) on recommendation from Unit Commanding Officers, Chaplains, Community Facilitators or a Social Worker. They may also be booked (at a daily rate) for personnel who live in barracks but have visitation rights for their children or personnel posted unaccompanied whose family is visiting. They are not to be booked for casual visits. Bookings can be made via the LRSC share point page or by contacting the DCF.

Transit Houses - The DSSG Housing Officer manages two transit houses within the housing area.  They are used to relocate housing area families if work is being carried out on their NZDF properties, and can be booked (subject to availability) to assist with postings.

Community Facilities for Hire.

Linton Community Centre - The facilities are available to both military and civilian personnel (must have an NZDF sponsor) on a first request basis. They can be booked through the LRSC share point page on DIXS or through contacting the DCF.

Facilities available within the Community Centre complex include a meeting space, stage area, kitchen facilities, large screen and DXIS capability. Hireage fees may apply nor non-military use. Please note bookings may be cancelled at short notice for NZDF or welfare reasons. 

Rastrick Hall - Rastrick Hall is located along Inglis Way and is available for military training. It can also be hired for private functions - in this case a cleaning bond required. Please note there is no DIXS connectivity in this facility.
